I got back yesterday from a service trip with F2W to Big Stone Gap, Virginia. I went to VA to do some work for Ms. Shirley Smith. Shirley and her late husband started “His Ministries, Inc” in response to the drug and alcohol abuse among the population in rural Virginia. Currently she runs several programs including a drug and alcohol referral service and a teen center called “The Edge”. Shirley provides these services at no cost through donations she receives. I had a great time with Shirley. I was so impressed with her faith and her desire to serve the community. While there, Jacob (Shirley’s grandson) and I were able to redo a bedroom so she can begin housing missionaries that come into town. I was also able to work with some of the local teenagers at The Edge. The kids and I had a great time of playing pool and hanging out. I left Virginia encouraged and determined. Encouraged that I met such a Godly woman confidently walking out on faith alone; and determined that F2W must continue to provide assistance to great organizations like His Ministries. – Ike Boyette PS: Hey Jacob – Love the hair, dude!
