“Paper or plastic sir?” That is what I heard from the young kid working the checkout line at my favorite grocery store (by the way it is Ingles where shopping is a pleasure!). I told the guy plastic (they work perfectly as a liner for my bathroom trash cans). Hey, a penny saved is a... Anyway, as I was standing there watching the pack of pork chops get “placed” on top of the lettuce, God reminded me of two things. One, God’s perfect laws of physics still apply inside of a plastic grocery bag. Case in point, when a heavy object, let’s say a 4-pack of pork chops, strikes a soft object, let’s say a bag of lettuce, at a high rate of speed, the soft object will loose (and in the case of lettuce, it will crush and turn brown immediately). The second and understandably the more important reminder is how good I have it. I am a frugal shopper. I look for deals. But I also know that I want quality. Excuse me but I will pay an extra dollar for the Cottonelle over the cheap sandpaper brand any day! And I don’t think twice about it. I will gladly pay the extra price. But there are a lot of people out there who pray daily for the opportunity to answer the question, “paper or plastic.” Even in this great country there are families going to bed hungry today. And those who are part of God’s family are called to do something about it. And many are. Like Anderson Interfaith Ministries (AIM) and Pope Drive Baptist Church. AIM runs a food bank here in Anderson, SC and to help F2W partnered them with Pope Drive’s Youth Group. This great group of kids and adults came out early last Saturday morning and volunteered their time for AIM cleaning, restocking shelves, and making donation bags for needy families. Thanks to Angie at AIM for all the hard work and especially to Pope Drive and their continued focus on serving their community. What an awesome example of two great organizations coming together to carry out God’s command. So what do you think, “paper or plastic?” Learn more or volunteer to help, contact AIM or F2W today.
